The staggering growth of Maricopa is both a challenge and an opportunity. Do we want to stay a “bedroom community” with limited local employment opportunities and services or grow into a regionally significant city that drives innovation and opportunity while providing a high standard of living for everyone? In 2016, the citizens of Maricopa decided that our city would rise into something remarkable (see our General Plan). By 2040:
“The City of Maricopa is a family friendly, vibrant community that offers diverse opportunities in culture, technology, education, business, entrepreneurship, transportation, entertainment, and recreation for all ages. A close knit community of committed leaders, engaged citizens, and diverse partners with pride in our history, and a shared vision for a prosperous future.” –2040 Vision Strategic Plan
Councilmember Goettl supports this vision by advocating for continued partnerships with the Greater Phoenix Economic Council (GPEC), the Arizona Commerce Authority (ACA), our local Maricopa Economic Development Alliance (MEDA) as well as many other organizations that will bring economic growth and stability to our city. Councilmember Goettl supports the City’s development of “shovel ready” business and industrial parks as well as the recently announced partnership with our University of Arizona neighbors to grow their acres into a research and industrial park which will bring much needed educational and economic opportunities to our city.
